Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach that focuses on understanding the reasons behind a person's behaviour rather than simply managing or suppressing it. PBS involves assessing environmental, social, and personal factors to identify why behaviours occur, then developing strategies to address unmet needs, build new skills, and improve quality of life. At Mirrored Mindset, our PBS approach is person-centred and always guided by the participant's goals, preferences, and rights.
When you refer to us, we begin with a thorough intake process to understand the participant's needs, goals, and current supports. From there, we work collaboratively with the participant, their family, carers, and support network to conduct assessments, identify patterns, and develop a tailored Behaviour Support Plan (BSP). We provide ongoing monitoring, review, and training to support implementation across all settings. Our approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and always guided by the participant's voice.
Behaviour support services are typically funded under the Improved Daily Living (IDL) support category (formerly Capacity Building – Behaviour Support) in a participant's NDIS plan. This covers assessment, behaviour support plan development, implementation support, and review. For participants with complex needs, funding may also come from the Support Coordination category. If you're unsure whether a participant has the right funding in place, we're happy to help you check.
We work with children, young people, and adults of all ages who have a disability and complex behaviour support needs. Our clients include people with autism, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, psychosocial disability, and other complex needs. We work within the NDIS framework and support participants across Brisbane, Logan, Gold Coast, and Sydney, as well as via telehealth where appropriate.
Currently there is no wait list - we are taking new clients in all areas!
We aim to respond to all new referrals within 2 business days. Standard intake and initial assessment timeframes vary depending on current caseload and the participant's location. For urgent situations — such as imminent risk of restrictive practice, crisis, or placement breakdown — we will do our best to prioritise and respond as quickly as possible. Please indicate if there is urgency when submitting your referral.
We provide face-to-face behaviour support services across Brisbane, Logan, the Gold Coast, and surrounding areas in South East Queensland. We also support some participants in Northern New South Wales. For participants outside these areas, or where in-person visits are not required, we offer telehealth services Australia-wide. Please contact us to discuss your specific location.
Yes. Many components of our behaviour support service can be delivered via telehealth, including consultations, plan reviews, team training, and supervision. Telehealth allows us to support participants, families, and support teams regardless of location. We use secure video conferencing to ensure privacy. For participants who need in-person functional assessment or observation, we will discuss the best approach with you at intake.
Absolutely. You do not need a support coordinator to refer to us. Participants, family members, carers, and guardians can all make a referral directly through our website or by calling us. We will guide you through the process from there, including checking that the right NDIS funding is in place. If you don't have a support coordinator and would like one, we can also provide information about how to access support coordination.
We understand that a good therapeutic relationship is essential for effective support. If at any point it becomes clear that we are not the right fit for a participant — whether due to geographic limitations, specialisation, cultural needs, or any other reason — we will let you know honestly and respectfully. We will do our best to provide information about other suitable providers and support a smooth transition. We will never leave a participant or family without a clear plan for what comes next.
A standard referral is for participants whose current situation is stable but who would benefit from behaviour support services. We aim to begin the intake process within 5–10 business days of receiving a standard referral. An urgent referral is appropriate where there is imminent risk — such as risk of harm to the participant or others, a significant restrictive practice in place, placement instability, or a current crisis. Please flag urgency clearly when referring. We review urgent referrals as a priority and aim to make contact within 1–2 business days.
Yes. Mirrored Mindset is a registered NDIS provider. Our practitioners meet the NDIS Practice Standards and the requirements of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for behaviour support.
